Miami Beach Seeks Alternative Art Week Solutions

The bad news for art aficionados, as you may have heard, is that this year’s highly anticipated Art Basel event scheduled for December 3rd through the 6th has been canceled due to obvious reasons. Despite the disappointing news, however, Miami Beach officials are diligently at work to create a solution where at least some aspect of Art Week can still happen safely.

Although Art Basel is the main headliner during Art Week, local cultural institutions and smaller satellite fairs also contribute to the celebration of all things artistic. For example, the smaller festivals Scope and Untitled are still on track to take place. Discussions are in the works to create a way for locals-only art experience where different places throughout the community can come together. One project involving a curated program aimed at highlighting public art throughout Miami Beach is already in the works.

Art Basel is 2020 but fans may be pleased to learn that organizers are already looking forward to and planning the 2021 event. There is also an online viewing room showcasing some of this year’s art scheduled to begin on September 23rd.

Are you excited to see potential new, local-skewed art events take place during Art Week as a way of replacing Art Basel?
