Miami Beach Convention Center Renovation Going as Planned
Miami Beach recently unveiled some of the progress it has made in its ambitious effort to renovate the Miami Beach Convention Center. Launched a year ago, the project is being funded by multiple city and county bonds backed by property and hotel taxes. Some of the work in store includes a second floor 50,000+ square foot grand ballroom, a small park space set to be situated near Collins Canal, and much more. The Carl Fisher Clubhouse is also undergoing restoration. The historic structure has been around since 1916.
Construction has progressed far enough that the east half is already being used for event hosting despite it not being entirely finished. Last month, a festival for fans of Major League Baseball was held there. For those planning on attending Art Basel later this year, officials have said that each of the four exhibition halls will be ready to host attendees and all of the unique artwork. Miami Beach recently signed an agreement to allow the convention center to remain the host of the popular event for the next decade.
These updates to the Miami Beach Convention Center are the most significant since it was previously updated in the late 1980s. The current renovations are expected to be complete by this time next year.
