South Florida Events Happening in April

April may not seem like there is much going on, yet a lot of under the radar events are happening in South Florida, including many that are near Miami Beach! Let’s explore some of these events you may wish to attend.

For opera fans, “Opera Italiana is in the Air” is a celebration of this art form that stages complimentary outdoors concerts. The event is happening for the first time on the 13th in Miami featuring an al fresco performance being held at Regatta Park. The orchestra consisting of local Miami musicians is being conducted by maestro Alvise Casellati and it will showcase classic pieces from works such as Puccini’s “Tosca” and Verdi’s “Rigoletto”.

The last name Marley is one that commands a deep level of respect in the music industry. Three of legendary reggae singer-songwriter Bob Marley’s children will be making an appearance at Kaya Fest this year at Bayfront Park. Festival creator Stephen Marley, Julian Marley, Ziggy Marley, as well as several of Bob Marley’s grandchildren will be in attendance on the 20th. Other musical acts such as “Mr. 305” Pitbull and rapper Busta Rhymes are also expected to show up.

Dita Von Teese Comes to The Fillmore

Are you a fan of burlesque? If so, you may be familiar with American burlesque dancer, model, costume designer and entrepreneur Dita Von Teese. A pivotal figure in bringing back burlesque performances, Von Teese is well-known for her classic vintage style that harkens back to the 1940s. During her performances, she is known for her signature act where she performs inside of a giant martini glass.

Born Heather Renee Sweet, Von Teese earned her stage name from Dita Parlo, a silent German film actress active during the late 1920s to the late 1960s. In 1992, Von Teese began performing her burlesque routines and has since made many memorable performances. During a benefit for the New York Academy of Art, she wore nothing but $5 million worth of diamonds. She has also made appearances on shows like America’s Next Top Model and she was also briefly married to artist Marilyn Manson.

Von Teese will bring her burlesque talents to The Fillmore Miami Beach on September 1. She will perform her “The Art of the Teese” show which features a new version of her signature routine involving a giant champagne glass adorned in more than 100,000 Swarovski crystals. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday.
