Halloween Events in Miami Beach

Tomorrow is Halloween and Miami Beach is definitely one of those South Florida cities that knows how to celebrate the ghoulishly fun day as the city turns into one giant masquerade. Let’s take a look at some of the events going on right here in the barrier island.

From 6 pm to 9 pm tomorrow, the Scott Rakow Youth Center will have various carnival games, a haunted house, treats for the kids, and more. Complimentary shuttle parking will be offered at Miami Beach Senior High School. Admission is only $5 and free for children age three and under. Do keep in mind masks will not be allowed for anyone age eleven or older.

For those planning on going trick-or-treating, various Miami Beach fire stations will be giving out goodies between 7 pm to 9 pm. You’ll also have the opportunity to snap a photo with a firefighter or a firetruck to remember the day.

The 1 Hotel South Beach is getting into the Halloween spirit with its “Alice in 1Derland Yelloween” event beginning tomorrow at 9 pm. The hotel rooftop will be transformed into a tea party of sorts featuring décor and other extras that all capture the imagination of the classic Alice in Wonderland world.

Great Restaurants for the Fall Season

The fall season is in full swing and there are plenty of places serving dishes for guests seeking to try something new this season. As we’ve done with these restaurant choices in the past, we’re sticking to the ones that are located here in the barrier island of Miami Beach. Let’s get started.

Just south of the Sunset Islands is Lucali, the New York City import that has shown no signs of losing its tremendous success since its opening. The calzones, as well as the pizza, are made using handmade dough and the restaurant is known for its incredibly fresh ingredients.

Byblos is one we’ve mentioned in the past and it’s once again receiving another mention. The décor is simply stunning but it’s the Mediterranean inspired food that truly elevates the eatery to a “must visit”. Byblos is located on Collins Avenue.

Top Chef winner Jeremy Ford’s Stubborn Seed on Washington Avenue captures the trendy atmosphere of the South of Fifth area. While its dishes are incredible, a major highlight of the restaurant is its tasting menu.

The next restaurant is so famous, most people will recognize it with a single word: “Joe’s”. As one of the oldest restaurants in Miami Beach, the perennial favorite continues to be one of the best places in town.

October Events in South Florida

October has arrived and with it comes a host of new events happening in and around Miami. Let’s explore what’s going on this month in case you’re trying to figure out what to do.

We’ll begin with the Miami International Auto Show kicking off this Friday. For those of you that are passionate about vehicles, the event is a showcase of the latest trucks, SUVs, and sedans featuring the latest in automotive technology by many of the world’s most well-known manufacturers. Tickets start at just $15 a person and there is sure to be plenty of opportunities to snap a selfie in front of cool vehicles.

Also happening in October is the South Beach Seafood Festival beginning on October 15^th. The event coincides with the start of stone crab season and if there is one place to enjoy the best stone crab, it’s definitely Joe’s Stone Crab. Food and wine pairings, the annual Chef Showdown, a VIP dinner, and much more is in store at this year’s festival.

The end of the summer season signals the arrival of basketball season. Come on out to the American Airlines Arena and support the Miami Heat as well as one of its star players: Dwyane Wade. This season will mark the twelve-time NBA All-Star player’s last before he retires.

Have Some Coffee, Adopt a Feline

What’s your typical definition of a cafe? It probably involves something along the lines of a relaxed place to enjoy some small bites while spending time chit-chatting with friends, family, or colleagues. What you may not typically associate it with is live cats.

More than a year in the works, The Cat Cafe South Beach is getting ready to make its grand debut next month. Besides a coffee bar, its most distinctive and perhaps peculiar feature is the foster home area which will be dedicated to local rescued cats that are up for adoption. This cat area will be run by volunteers and coffee bar guests can rest assured that this area will be separated by a glass wall. As you might guess from the unusual concept, the ultimate goal is to try and find loving homes for the stray cats while reducing cat overpopulation in the barrier island.

The Cat Cafe South Beach is not entirely new to South Florida. If you’ve ever been to Wilton Manors, you may have come across Good Luck Cat Cafe. Miami is also planning to debut its own take on this concept when The Cat’s Meow Café makes its grand opening. As for The Cat Cafe South Beach, it will be located at 1423 Washington Avenue.

Last Minute Summer Dining

This weekend marks the “official” end of summer, though the weather in South Florida is always toasty. Have you taken advantage of the season’s hottest eateries yet? The following suggestions may become your new year-round favorites!

Let’s kick things off right here in Miami Beach with Malibu Farm. Situated in the trendy Eden Roc Hotel, patrons can discover a taste of California courtesy of chef Helene Henderson who has concocted a variety of dishes. Try the wood-fired zucchini crust pizza, snack on a grilled veggie sandwich, go for the chicken ricotta burgers or grilled skirt steak, there is something for everyone in this place.

We’re making a pit stop in North Bay Village to take a closer look at 222 Taco. Everything from tacos to quesadillas, Mexican burgers and burritos can be found in this place which also has grab and go options available. Big News for the South Beach Wine & Food Festival

Among the many Miami Beach events that locals look forward to, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) is certainly among them. In 2019, it will celebrate eighteen years of bringing together foodies, celebrities, and a deliciously distinct array of great bites to the barrier island and beyond. Not only is the event coming back in a major way, but it’s also going to have the most events of any previous SOBEWFF! As part of the larger SOBEWFF, several new events are in store. To help you start making a decision on which ones you’d like to attend, let’s explore some of these events making their debut.

Delius Shirley and Cindy Hutson are bringing the best of the Caribbean during the Taste Jamaica event. Attendees can expect lots of popular dishes popular on the island like breadfruit and saltfish. The event will be held at the National Hotel.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make pasta? Chef Michael Pirolo will be doing just that when he hosts the Pasta Making Master Class which will also include a delectable lunch over at his Miami Beach eatery better known as Macchialina.

The Eden Roc will serve as the setting for Rosé Pool Party featuring food (and rosé of course) by chef Geoffrey Zakarian. As the name suggests, guests are encouraged to jump in and enjoy a cool swim in the pool, so don’t forget to bring along a swimsuit!

Mr. 305 Wants You. Dale!

Among the many musical acts associated with Miami, there is one most people can agree is synonymous with the Magic City. That name, of course, is rapper Pitbull, perhaps best known by his “Mr. 305” moniker and his “Dale!” catchphrase.

Pitbull generated headlines recently when he revealed plans to debut a restaurant right here in the barrier island of Miami Beach. Calling it “iLov305”, the eatery will be located inside of the posh Bel-Air Hotel, right on Ocean Drive. Unlike a traditional restaurant, Pitbull is promising that iLov305 will be more than just a Latin steakhouse. Besides the food, there are also plans for regular entertainment, with hopes that iLov305 will become a full-fledged nightlife destination.

With that in mind, Pitbull is currently looking to hire some talent. If you’re a model, a singer, a dancer, or a “specialty performer”, you may have a shot at impressing and showcasing your talents to Mr. 305 himself.

If the idea of working for Pitbull sounds interesting, bring your talent, your resume, a valid ID, and a headshot to Show Stoppers Studio in Hialeah this Sunday, September 9. Women should wear a form-fitting dress or a two-piece outfit while men should come dressed entirely in black. You must be at least 21 years of age to apply/audition.

The Beds n’ Drinks hostel is nestled quietly between Collins Avenue and Lincoln Road so it may be easy to overlook. The Freehand Miami on Indian Creek Drive is an experience both locals and foreigners will enjoy. It is also the home of the Broken Shaker, one of the best-rated bars in Miami Beach and one that is also nationally ranked.

Prepare Your Palate for the South Beach Seafood Festival

One of the oldest yet still popular restaurants in Miami Beach is Joe’s Stone Crab in the South Beach area, which has served seafood since it opened way back in 1913. While Joe’s Stone Crab isn’t the only place to enjoy a great bite of seafood in Miami Beach, the popularity of the food has at least partially inspired the annual South Beach Seafood Week.

South Beach Seafood Week is returning for its sixth consecutive year, bringing a celebration of all things that involve aquatically derived food. The five-day event includes a smorgasbord of events that are all seafood-related including dinners, battles between chefs, educational seminars, and much more. Speaking of Joe’s Stone Crab, this year’s event is bringing along an evening dinner at the popular South Beach eatery as well as an event at Meat Market involving a six-course surf ‘n’ turf meal. David Salinas of Joe’s Stone Crab will also be participating in the Chef Showdown in which several individuals with culinary talents compete to determine who makes the best oyster, lobster, or sushi as voted on by attendees.

Besides the numerous events and the food at Lummus Park, festival attendees can look forward to a trio of live music stages, a basketball court, cocktail bar, and much more. Though the event doesn’t arrive until October 16, tickets are already going fast.

Grab an Inexpensive Lunch in Miami Beach

We previously discussed the return of the popular Miami Spice event where diners can feast on special lunch and dinner menus for a fraction of the regular cost at participating restaurants. But what if you just want to enjoy a lunch that won’t cost you too much? We have a few suggestions worth exploring.

Let’s head up to the northern area of Miami Beach to take a closer look at King Palace Chinese Bar-B-Q, the home of the barbecued pork and roast duck. One of the interesting things about this place is that most of the ingredients are easily visible, like the pork belly that provides a glimpse into the kitchen. The restaurant is located at 330 NE 167th Street.

Taquiza is another local favorite in Miami Beach and for just seven dollars you can try its acclaimed quesadilla packed with refried beans, chihuahua cheese, and squash blossoms, a distinct spin courtesy of chef Steve Santana. The tortilla itself is made from corn imported directly from Mexico and it is nixtamalized at the restaurant. Taquiza is located at 7450 Ocean Terrace.

Over in the Miami Design District, try the fried chicken sandwich at La Pollita. Wrapped inside of a sesame bun, the ingredients include avocado, hot sauce aioli, and piquant slaw. La Pollita’s address is 160 NE 41st Street.
